Is It Me? Or Is It Social Media Messing With My Head?

Is It Me? Or Is It Social Media Messing With My Head?

Social Media, Mental Health, and the Lie That You're the Problem

Ever sat there after posting on Facebook or TikTok, staring at the screen thinking,
Why does no one care?”

You put effort into something honest, funny, or creative. You hit post. And then? Crickets. Maybe your mum likes it. Maybe that one mate from 2012 throws you a sympathy heart. And you start to wonder:

  • Am I just not interesting enough?”

  • Is it because I don’t look like the people who go viral?”

  • Do people not like me?”

Let me say this clearly, loudly, and with love:
You are not the problem.

Here's What Social Media Doesn't Tell You

The reason your post gets seen by a handful of people has nothing to do with your worth, your looks, or your personality. It has everything to do with how social media works behind the scenes.

1. The Algorithm Only Shows Your Post to a Tiny Percentage of People

When you post, the platform shows it to a small test group — usually just 5 to 10 percent of your followers.
If that little group doesn’t instantly like, comment, or share, the platform assumes your post is “low value” and stops pushing it out further.

Even if your message is amazing. Even if it’s the most heartfelt thing you’ve ever written. It gets buried.

2. The Algorithm Favours What It Can Sell

Let’s be honest. These platforms prioritise:

  • Pretty people

  • Polished content

  • Trendy audio

  • High engagement

  • Anything that keeps people scrolling and clicking on ads

Your unfiltered selfie? Your honest thoughts? Your real talk about life and mental health?
They’re not designed to go viral — not because they’re not valuable, but because they don’t make the platform money.

3. It’s Not About You. It’s About Their System

It’s a popularity contest, and the rules are rigged.
So when your post flops, it’s easy to think “I’m not good enough” — but it’s simply that you’re playing a real game in a fake system.

So Why Keep Posting?

Because sometimes, even in that tiny handful, you’ll get a comment that reminds you why you showed up in the first place.
And that’s what I hold onto.

Even if I only get five comments, they’re full of love. From people who actually see me. Who get the vibe. Who aren’t here for perfect — they’re here for real. And that, to me, means more than going viral ever will.

That’s Why I Made This Mug

It’s called the Self-Love Mug, and it’s not just for your tea.
It’s for the days the algorithm makes you question your worth.
It’s a quiet rebellion. A bold reminder. A sip of self-respect.
For the women who show up anyway. For those who keep being real in a world that rewards fake.

If you’re searching for answers like:

  • Why do I feel invisible online?

  • Why do my posts get no engagement?

  • How does social media affect self-esteem and mental health?

  • Am I not pretty enough to get views?

  • How do I stop comparing myself to everyone else?

You’re not alone — and you’re not broken.
The system was never built to celebrate people like us.
But that doesn’t mean we stop celebrating ourselves.

Let’s stop twisting ourselves into knots to fit an algorithm.
Let’s post what we love, say what we mean, and show up as we are.

You are not the problem. You are the magic.

With love,
Lisa x
